The Hunter's famous names deserve their reputation.
But they aren't the whole story.
Hidden Hunter: Small Batch, Boutique & Brilliant takes you beyond the obvious cellar doors to meet producers whose appeal comes from focus, individuality and doing things their own way.
Beginning along Hermitage Road, we'll discover an off-grid farm and winery before visiting Tintilla Estate, where a family-run vineyard, winery and olive grove introduce the idea of making something distinctive from one place.
At Thomas Wines, we'll go deeper.
Here, single-vineyard Semillon and Shiraz lead us towards one of wine's most fascinating questions:
Can you taste a place?
After a relaxed lunch pause, we'll visit De Iuliis Wines, where Hunter classics sit alongside alternative grape varieties and small-batch experimentation. It's a reminder that respecting a region doesn't mean refusing to challenge it.
Then the road carries us west beyond Pokolbin to Broke Fordwich — a quieter Hunter landscape of boutique vineyards, farms and smaller producers.
Our finale is Krinklewood, where certified organic and biodynamic farming gives us our most provocative question of the day:
What exactly is biodynamic wine?
We'll separate documented farming practices from the philosophical ideas associated with biodynamics, allowing you to decide what you make of it.
This is a wine-focused tour, but alcoholic tasting is always optional. A designated driver must remain alcohol-free.
Allow the full day, pre-book tastings where required and avoid trying to squeeze extra wineries between stops.
Hidden Hunter isn't about drinking more wine.
It's about looking more closely at who made it, where it came from, and why they chose to make it that way.
Stories trigger by GPS as you arrive — no tapping while you drive.
